Hello and welcome to the Malta Village Project!
What is The Village Project?
The Village Project is an initiative of Team Malta where we seek to find partners to adopt villages in the country of Malta. When a group adopts a Village, they commit to pray for that village and "do our utmost to cover this Local Council area in prayer during our partnership".
What do you mean by a "village" and "Local Council Area"?
A village
is a small town, and most people in Malta live in a village. There are
often surrounding areas which are small communities in their own right,
and under a different name, but are technically part of the village,
like suburbs. Each village and its surrounding communities fall under
the jurisdiction of the village's Local Council and so we use the term
"Local Council Area" to include the village's surroundings too.
A Local Council
is a government-funded committee elected by the area's inhabitants, and
the head of the council is the village's mayor. The council is charged
with caring for the area; maintaining the roads and environment,
providing services to the community, dealing with local problems, and
initiating projects for the community's benefit.
So how can I get involved in the Village Project?
Well, you could adopt a village to pray for, or, even better, act as a contact person
and help a whole group get involved! This could be your church, your
Sunday School class, intercessory group or a similar group you may be
involved in. We prefer to have a group of people adopt, rather than one
individual, as this way there are more people praying for the adopted
village.
